ISLA DE ALBORÁN

VESSEL DESCRIPTION

The "Isla de Alboran" ship was built as a purse seine fishing vessel in the Mediterranean, by "Astilleros Lehimosa" from Vinaroz (Castellón), in 1988. It is a ship with raked bow and tacks in range, transom bow and half-ramp for starboard trawl, powered by twin propellers of four blades each, and governed by an ordinary center helm with two cross-maneuver propellers: forward and aft. Since then, it has repeatedly undergone significant improvements and maintenance works. The manufacturing material is polyester, and it has a mast on the bridge and two decks (main and castle)

Fire extinguishers are available in all compartments

DECK MACHINERY

The following equipment is in the working deck:
An Atlas Kran telescopic crane, model AK 125.1 AZ (12 tons) with winch
Hydraulic winch "Maquinaria y Taller S.L.L." model AL-1500-AI-M Power 2000 kg at ½ reel with 800 m of 10mm cable and side warping ends.
A davit located on the port side for purse maneuvering, in stainless steel, with upper crosshead and eyebolts to bow and stern.
Two small struts for manual maneuvers
An extensible gantry for vibros of up to 6 m high


ANCHORING MACHINERY ON CASTLE DECK

A hydraulic anchor winch with a reel, with a capacity of 300 meters of cable


WORK AREAS LAYOUT

The main deck is clear and it has hatches for the engine room and hold.
In the bow-port there is the pulling winch for sampling. Powerful enough to lift weights of up to 2,000 kg from depths of up to 800m.
In the stern, there is a turret on which the main crane is installed, which range covers the entire working deck.
In the stern-starboard there is a trawl half-ramp on which the tender is located. Thanks to its design, it allows a quick and easy hoisting and lowering maneuver.
The hold dimensions are approximately 7.6m in length, 5.7m in beam and 2.10m in height, and it has two iceboxes of about 10 m³. Both of them stow fridge and freezer, being an appropriate location for a field laboratory.


CASTLE AND ACCOMMODATION LAYOUT

In the bow, above the castle, there is the control bridge with two access doors, one from the outside and another from the inside.
In the intermediate deck there is a spacious dining room, a galley, a bathroom with shower, a cabin for up to four people with bathroom and shower, and a single cabin.
Housing for the rest of the crew is under the intermediate deck and consists of twelve berths.


STEERING SYSTEM

The vessel has an ordinary center helm, located on the center line, driven by a hydraulic servo motor which pump is coupled to the main starboard engine. The whole steering system is driven by electro valves located on the bridge. In case of a failure in the hydraulic pressure, the wheel is manually operated from the steering wheel, also having a safety servo coupled to the port engine.
